It’s Packer-time: The Mothyspace Healthcare Post

Above is a photo of the late great Kerry Packer. One of the greats of Australian media, business, sport and everything else in between. This was a man whose gambling ability was so renowned he upped the ante and offered to  flip a coin against some guy in a casino for some ungodly amount of money reaching into the millions.

Such is my admiration for the man, after waiting 3 years on a public hospital waiting list, I decided it was Packer-time!

I mustered up my best Kerry Packer impression and laid a smack down over the phone on newly minted Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan. See below:

It wasn’t anything personal against him, I’m sure he’s a nice guy for an Interventionist- Socialist. *gags*

From the rumour mill I heard that he allegely owns a Porsche and apparently worked on President Obama’s campaign before romping it home in Queensland’s state election in Morayfield.  Hardly a working class hero!

Granted his competition from the LNP wasn’t that sharp so it is probably a moot point anyway. But I digress.

My beef was with his leader’s absolute arrogance in hand-balling former Health Minister Stephen Robertson into Energy and not making him take responsibility for the c*ck ups that occured on his watch in Health, that led to my very personal 3 year wait among other things. I did the obligatory phone in and email and got the standard blathering response.

When I told him I was so fed up with my situation that if he didn’t take action on my case, I would call up Mr. Packer’s former Current Affair TV program and take this to a new level. The stakes were suddenly raised much higher.

Anyone who knows politicians, knows they don’t like bad publicity! Guess who blinked first. LOL!

Having a personal friend who know’s someone who had worked for A Current Affair and ABC TV-Radio it seemed it would be easy to make a few calls and take Mr Ryan and his Leader head on.

But that’s only if he was going to continue being a do nothing politician. It was David v.s. Goliath stuff after-all.

I’d attempted several times prior, to contract privately through using my credit card and was told they were either overbooked or didn’t take my particular credit card.

With no choice, It was packer-time!

It’s funny because 2 days after I laid the smackdown, I recieved a letter in the mail with details regarding my public procedure.

After three long years I was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I returned home today after having the procedure done. The staff were fantastic despite the fact that the group of people I went in with were shuffled around various wards due to overcrowding.

They do a great job in intense circumstances and deserve medals for the way that they are putting up with bureaucratic incompetence and poor planning on the part of Government.

Co-incidence or not, I’m pleased I did it, because Government managed health care with out free-market approaches/choices that enable people like me to do what I need to do to pay for aforesaid services is important. No matter what PR bullshit the politicians try and put out to the contrary, I finally got through a failed system!

As a consequence I posted a quicky podcast outlining my frustrations and tracing what I believe to be the history regarding the current c*ck ups in health planning and reform i.e. His name is Kevin!

Hat’s off to Mark, Anna, and Stephen. NOT!

I was ready to get into the bear pit and fight if I didn’t my satisfaction. I know health care isn’t a right. But with no free-market oriented choices in Queensland this trapped me in bureaucracy not of my own making but Gubment’s, That’s no choice! Word up fellow conspirators.
